BBC School Report

On 10th March 4 Year 8 students were invited to Media City to take part in the annual BBC News School Report Day. A selection of schools from around the country were asked to take part and Woodhey was lucky enough to be among them.

The students spent the morning with the Newsround production team and had sole responsibility for the development, scripting, and even did the voiceovers for the web based weekly segment of 'Strange, Stranger and Strangest' which can now viewed on the Newsround website. They then enjoyed an exciting afternoon of coding and writing up their experiences of School Report Day.

Prior to this, the 4 students, along with the rest of the BBC School Report team had been making the news themselves. They had spent a number of weeks creating a special news report about the collapse of The Waterside pub in Summerseat; even spending time filming on location in Summerseat and conducting interviews with residents. Their hard work culminated in the news report that is now here on the website.

Woodhey High School Choir - A Journey Through Africa

Last term the Woodhey High School Choir took part in a very exciting project entitled A Journey Through Africa.
Months of rehearsals led up to the 2nd March when the choir spent the day at the Met Theatre in Bury. They rehearsed with a number of local primary schools and a professional band and also spent some time in their state of the art recording studio.
The day culminated in an amazing live concert, performed to a packed house! Our pupils were a real credit to the school and the Performing Arts Department are incredibly proud of them and all their hard work.
We are very pleased to have copies of the CD that the choir recorded, you can hear an excerpt here.
The choir are now busy rehearsing for their next big project, performing in a community concert in July.
We wish them the best of luck!

Great GCSE Results for Woodhey Pupils!

We are absolutely delighted with Woodhey's results this summer. Our pupils and staff have risen to the challenge of the new reformed GCSEs and their achievements are as good as any in recent years. We are particularly pleased with the school's performance against some of the government's new measures: 41% of pupils achieved the English Baccalaureate; 76% gained a strong pass in English and 7.5% of pupils attained the new challenging GCSE grade 9. Pupils of all levels of ability, including those with special educational needs, made good progress. Congratulations to Anna Egan, Sophie Holt, Ben Knapper and Hannah Blackmore who attained 12 grade 9s and 28 A*s between them! Excellent progress was also made by Max Etchells, Serena Yeung, Mohsin Hassan and Alice Blackburn. Pupils at Woodhey study subjects that range from Business Studies to Hair & Beauty, Physics to Equine Studies and Advanced Maths to Engineering. We are proud of the achievement of all of our pupils across this broad curriculum. All our young people leave Woodhey as respectful, well-rounded individuals who are fully prepared for the next stage of their lives. We wish them every success for the future.

YEAR 7 FIRST THOUGHTS SEPTEMBER 2017

These are just a few of the comments we received:

• At first it all was big but now I know my way around it`s all like second nature if get lost people will help you and if late the teachers will be sympathetic, it is a great school

• Exciting to meet new friends and explore the hallways. Exciting to play flute with other people, exciting to join clubs like: drama, music, football and basketball.

• Woodhey is definitely different from my primary school but I`ve made some nice and kind friends here. Everyone is helpful and supportive, I know I will like it here. This is a very good school and I am positive will learn loads of new things here! I have enjoyed my first few days at school as it is a very big school and it offers many new opportunities to achieve my goals and dreams. This school offers many chances to make new friends and helps you put yourself out there rather than blend in with all the crowds. This school gives you the information you need to learn and grow but if you didn`t give us that chance we wouldn`t learn. there are subjects I did at primary but there are also a wide variety of classes that I never did.

• It is a big school and it is very friendly and there is a lot more things to learn. I think it is better than primary because you learn with people on the same level of work. It is good to find new friends and see and get use to loads of new and friendly teachers at this school. I think I had grown out of my primary school so this was a good change. There is a lot of subjects I have enjoyed so I could not name them all. I have had a good time so far and I can not wait for the future.

• I love this great school, all the teachers are so nice and this experience of being at high school is amazing. At first I was quite nervous about meeting new people and getting lost but I`m fine so thank you.The school is so much bigger and it was hard to get used to it at first but it`s alright

• Best school in Bury, pupils are kind, nice and friendly The school is wonderful, the library helped me make a lot of friends in the chess club.year 11`s have been nice to me

• It was a very nervous start but after a day or two I new that I would be fine. They are very welcoming and and caring when you are lost. I don`t have to worry any more.

• It`s so different to primary school but I enjoy the lessons much more. The teachers are helpful and kind, the lessons are fun and exciting and at lunch there is much more variety. All of the older students are really kind and help to show where you are trying to go. I have so far really enjoyed Woodhey!

• It`s a good place to learn and teachers are really kind.

• A good and safe place for all and is fun i feel like I`m in a kind community.

• I think that Woohey is a great school. Everybody so far has been very nice and helpful. I have enjoyed my first couple of weeks.

• I love woodhey. It is a caring community and I am sure I will enjoy my time here.

• Woodhey is a really good school with polite staff so if you get lost they will help you on your way around school. The classrooms are really easy to find after a few days.

• I love woodhey, all the sports opportunities are amazing. I can`t wait for all the clubs to start. All the teachers are really nice. I love the school lunches, they are the best and really delicious.

Wed 15th Nov Problem on Ramsbnottom Roads

There has been a significant accident on the main road in Greenmount. This is preventing any cars driving towards school from Longsight Road or from Bolton Road. As I write at 7.30 the police are not even allowing pedestrians to walk through to school from Longsight Road. Traffic is now also building up on Bolton Road West through Ramsbottom. Our advice is not to drive your child to school this morning. Pupils wlaking to school from Greenlount and Brandlesholme may not get through at this time and may be advised to set off slightly later.
