This week Woodhey High School, part of the Shaw Education Trust, and their students were pleased to see the formal open of their newly installed outdoor shelters.
The shelters were the result of a year of intensive fundraising efforts by the newly formed Friends of Woodhey and the shelters were the first item that students wanted to be purchased – in part due to our inclement Bury weather!!
Councillors Tom Pilkington and John Southworth were pleased to visit school this week to formally open the shelters with fundraising efforts now focused on securing outdoor furniture to use alongside the shelters.
Friends of Woodhey chair Chrissy Round attended the formal opening and commented – ‘After all our efforts to reach the fundraising target over the past twelve months, it is incredible to see the shelters installed and ready for students to use.’
Woodhey High School head teacher Dean Watson – ‘One of the first suggestions made to us by our students was for more covered outdoor space during break times and it is great to be able to respond to this and open these wonderful shelters for our students to use. We are very grateful for the work of our Friends of Woodhey in supporting us to be able to listen and respond to our students’ wishes to keep improving their school.’
With efforts now turning to secure outdoor furniture and seating for the shelter, anyone who wishes to sponsor seating or a bench can do so by getting in touch with the school on: woodhey@woodhey.set.org
