At Woodhey High School, we incorporate all of our SEND students into all aspects of school life. We want our students to be a proud part of our community, and work together with our team of staff, students, parents and carers to ensure that our students broaden their horizons, exceed their aspirations and achieve their full potential.
Our skilled team of both SEND staff and wider staff work hard to meet students' needs, and where there is a requirement for additional support, whether this is inside or outside of the classroom, that it is bespoke to each students' needs.

Useful Information
We are very proud to announce that in July 2024, we achieved the SEND Inclusion Award. This Award is a national accreditation that reflects our absolute focus for our students at Woodhey. The award is valid for 3 years and is a rigorous process and analysis of the provision across schools to secure the highest quality provision for students with SEND. The Award was secured following the completion of a rigorous assessment visit in which the views of students, staff , parents and carers views were gathered along with a plethora of evidence.
Key extracts from the SENDIA Report include:
‘Strong and secure communication with all stakeholders enables the school to fully identify and meet the needs of all students and families, providing targeted and effective support.’
‘Strong transition plans are in place; ensuring smooth transition is key to laying secure foundations for students to develop their skills and form and maintain positive relationships.’
‘SEND CPD sessions and Inset days are embedded into usual working practices to enhance the overall quality of education.’
‘Resourced Provision students are predominantly in main classes, which allows for integration with peers and development to their maximum potential.’
We would like to thank our parents and carers for their support during the process and for providing their views on the day.
Quotes from Parent and Carer voice gathered during the visit:
- ‘My son started in the Resource Provision in September. The support is exceptional with an informed approach, and regular updates.’

- ‘Communication is constructive and encouraging, I am so happy I chose Woodhey.’
SEND Register
The SEN Register is a working document that is reviewed and updated on a regular basis. It identifies students who may require additional support, under the 4 board areas of need. We review and update the SEN Register by working collaboratively with Pastoral Mentors and Directors of Progress.
Students on the SEN register are categories as ‘E’ or ‘K’.
What is the difference between SEND ‘E’ and ‘K’?
Students with an EHC Plan are student are coded as an ‘E’ on the SEN register and remain on the SEN register.
Students receiving SEN ‘K’ support are students who are receiving additional support for a need that they may have, but do not have an EHC Plan in place. Students who are coded as a ‘K’ on the SEN register and can be added or removed from the SEN register throughout their school career.
If your child is currently categorised as receiving SEN ‘K’ support and you are interested in gaining information regarding the EHC Plan process, further information can be found at Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) - Bury Council
Resourced Provision
We currently provide a Resourced Provision setting for students with Autism. We currently hold capacity for up to 15 students.
As part of the Resourced Provision, students have access to additional provision such as:
- Their own work station
- A quiet and calm environment, outside of the mainstream classroom
- Shared in class support
- A range of interventions to support their needs
- Key Worker
Our aim is for our Resourced Provision students to be integrated into the whole school community, including lessons, whilst receiving an ‘extra layer’ of support.
Threshold for admission:
- Children will have a primary presenting Autism need, but the school and the LA work together to identify whether Woodhey is the best provision to meet a child's needs.
- Children have an EHC Plan in place
- Allocation of an RP place is the responsibility of the LA to determined from consultations to school and discussions with education/ parents and carers
If parents/carers are interested in applying for a place for their child, they must request admission to ‘Woodhey RP’, rather than the mainstream setting.
