Woodhey High School is proud to announce that it has been awarded the Gold Standard Pupil Resilience Award by School Impact Awards, recognising the school’s outstanding commitment to developing resilient, confident and independent young people.

The accreditation celebrates Woodhey’s whole-school approach to building resilience through its culture, curriculum and enrichment opportunities. The award recognises the impact of initiatives of the Personal Development programme, the Woodhey Pledge, student leadership programmes, a strong personal development curriculum and a wide range of enrichment experiences that encourage pupils to embrace challenge and develop confidence.

Validation of the award highlighted how resilience is embedded across school life – from classroom learning and pastoral support to digital safety, financial education and opportunities for students to take on leadership roles and community projects. Students benefit from a supportive pastoral system, restorative approaches and dedicated wellbeing initiatives that help them develop the tools and strategies needed to manage challenges both in school and beyond.

Adam Downing, Assistant Headteacher for Personal Development, said:

“We are incredibly proud to receive the Gold Standard Pupil Resilience Award. Achieving this recognition reflects the dedication of our staff and the determination of our students. Building resilience is not something that happens overnight – it requires a consistent, whole-school commitment to supporting young people to face challenges, learn from setbacks and grow in confidence.”

He added:

“This is a tough standard to achieve, and the award is a testament to the character and ambition of our students. They continually show courage in taking on new opportunities, whether through leadership, enrichment activities or their everyday learning. We are proud of what they have accomplished and excited to continue building on this work.”

The validation report praised the school’s strong ethos of respect and excellence, highlighting how students are encouraged to develop perseverance, independence and a growth mindset. Woodhey is proud that this award reflects our vision of supporting our students to be the best that they can be in all aspects of life.
