Sponsored Walk 2024

On a drizzly Friday morning, almost 900 #TeamWoodhey students tackled a challenging 10-mile walk to raise money to improve their school community.

The walk, taking students through Redisher Woods, down Tottington Lines, with a brief stop off at Burrs Country Park, before heading back to school via Summerseat, challenged students to be physically active for around 4 hours.

Not only was the walk a great opportunity for students to raise money, but they also learned about their local community, including its history and geography in preparation for the walk. Students seized the opportunity to strengthen their relationships with staff and each other and demonstrated a strong sense of camaraderie and belonging throughout to motivate each other.

The walk avoided the infamous rain of 2023, but did involve a cow-related obstacle for Year 8 and 10, who ended up tackling almost 12 miles, having to detour around the cows after Ms Rothwell's cow whispering skills only served to attract more cows to the blockage, than encourage them away.

We visited form group 7C after the walk who shared with us their thoughts on the day:

"It was a really good walk, very tiring but I have made lots of good memories."

"Wow, I never knew there was so much where we live. I will definitely be coming back to do this walk with my family!"

Thank you to everyone who was involved in organising the walk and sponsoring our students. There is still time to support their efforts (up to the 12th July), and you can do so by clicking the link below.
