As part of Woodhey High School’s Personal Development Programme, The Pledge, the entire school community came together on the 27th June for one of our biggest annual events — the Woodhey Sponsored Walk. This year’s event took students and staff on a scenic 10-mile route through the beautiful local countryside, all in support of raising vital funds for improvements to our school site.
From the outset, the walk embodied the spirit of community, teamwork, and belonging. Students and teachers walked together in their form groups, supporting and encouraging one another along the way. The atmosphere was electric — filled with laughter, shared goals, and an incredible sense of pride in being part of something bigger. The walk wasn’t just about fundraising; it was a true reflection of Woodhey’s commitment to developing well-rounded, socially responsible individuals. The Pledge challenges students to engage with their community and contribute positively to the world around them — and this event captured that mission perfectly.
We’re thrilled to share that the Sponsored Walk has already raised thousands of pounds, with every penny going towards improving the school environment. Planned additions include new outdoor shelters and benches — spaces where students can relax, socialise, and enjoy their breaktimes in comfort. These improvements will directly benefit current and future students, making our school site even more welcoming and inclusive.
We would like to extend a huge thank you to the Friends of Woodhey, whose support with event organisation and the ever-popular tuck shop at Burrs Country Park helped keep spirits (and energy levels!) high throughout the day. Their dedication and hard work are deeply appreciated.
We’re also incredibly grateful for the kind words and encouragement from members of the public who encountered our walkers. Their positive feedback reminded us of the strength and support that exists within our wider community.
If you haven’t yet donated, there’s still time to support this fantastic cause. Please visit our JustGiving page at: https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/woodhey2025walk
A great time was had by all — and we look forward to making next year’s walk even more successful. Thank you to everyone who walked, donated, or cheered us on!
