Today, our Year 9 students heard from Martin Hyman from the Northern Holocaust Education Group (NHEG), who spent two hours sharing his family’s experiences of the Holocaust. The NHEG works with schools to keep the stories of those affected by the Holocaust alive, helping young people understand its impact on real people and families. Martin spoke movingly about his mother, Ilse, and their experiences in Lviv, giving students a powerful insight into what life was like during that time. His talk formed part of our ongoing commitment to Holocaust education, ensuring students continue to engage with these histories in a meaningful and personal way.
Students responded brilliantly throughout the session. They listened with real focus and respect and were clearly moved by Ilse’s story and the realities Martin shared. At the end of the visit, Martin praised the behaviour of our students, commenting on their maturity and the respectful atmosphere they created, as well as the outstanding behaviour he saw across all faculties during his tour of school. It was a really impactful experience for the whole year group. We can't thank Martin and the NHEG enough for taking the time to visit our school and we look forward to continuing to collaborate with them going forward.
