Inspired by our fantastic Student Ambassadors, December saw our inaugural Charity and Community Week.

The week, planned and executed by the team of ambassadors saw each year group select a worthy local cause to raise awareness of, and gather donations for, before culminating in a fantastic Friday finale with form groups designing their own charity stalls to raise money for two national charities, as selected by students across school. There was also room for a Clubbercise Marathon for the Manchester Donkey Sanctuary as a thank you for the therapeutic support they provide some of our Curriculum Support students.

Monday saw Year 7 generously donate to Ramsbottom Pantry, before Year 8s took over the mantle on Tuesday with donations for the Bury Homeless Project. Year 9 opted to gather donations for SAFENET, the Bury Domestic Abuse Charity, quickly followed by Year 10 who donated to Hewlett Court Sheltered Accommodation. Year 11 completed the donation marathon on Friday by supporting Bury Hospice.

Friday’s fantastic finale with form-organised charity stalls was an overwhelming success, raising almost £700 in half an hour for the Turner Syndrome Society and the Brain Tumour Charity. Stalls ranged from netball challenges, cupcake sales, to Mr McMahon being sponsored to shave his hair off. Not only was a fantastic amount of money raised, but a lot of fun was also had by all.

Our Senior Student Ambassadors said: ‘We, as a school have been working hard with the students for the benefit of the school and the community. We want to say a massive thank you to everyone who got involved.’
