On Friday 19th January, as part of our careers programme, Year 7 experienced an NHS Careers Day.
Organised by the Greater Manchester Cancer Alliance, students had the opportunity to interact with surgeons, paramedics, nurses and leaders within the NHS.
Students had the opportunity to learn about careers, take part in VR operations on patients, interact with AI patients, learn about vital first aid skills such as CPR, and had stereotypes of professionals such as nurses challenged. It was a great day, and we are very grateful to all of the NHS colleagues who gave their time.
Jude, in Year 7, shared his thoughts on the day:
'Guess what? The NHS came to visit our school, Woodhey! It was so cool and totally unexpected. One day, our teachers told us that we were going to have special guests from the NHS to teach us all about health and careers. We were like, "What? The NHS is coming to OUR school?" It was like having real-life superheroes visit us!
When they got here, they didn't just talk about boring stuff. They made it super fun! We had these cool lessons where we learned about different jobs in healthcare, like doctors and nurses. They even let us try out some medical equipment. We played games on the VR that taught us about staying healthy and how the NHS helps everyone. It made me think that maybe one day, I could be a part of the NHS too! It was the best day ever, and I'll never forget when the NHS came to Woodhey - thank you very much for organising it. '
