On Friday, 22nd November, Year 10 GCSE PE students were treated to an exciting visit from the Royal Navy, who ran an engaging workshop to raise awareness of the Navy's vital work and the career opportunities it offers.
The session began with an inspiring talk by a Navy officer who shared their experience of providing humanitarian aid in the Philippines after Typhoon Haiyan in 2013. This moving story highlighted the Navy's global role in disaster relief, showcasing their ability to bring hope and support to communities in crisis.
The visit also explored how the Royal Navy offers diverse career paths, including the chance to combine professional aspirations with personal passions. Jack, a Year 10 student, was particularly interested in how the Navy supports sports such as Rugby, offering opportunities to play competitively while serving.
The students then took part in practical activities designed to develop teamwork and leadership skills. Through dynamic challenges and problem-solving tasks, the group learned the importance of communication, resilience, and collaboration—essential qualities both in the Navy and beyond.
The workshop left students inspired and more informed about the unique opportunities a career in the Royal Navy can provide. One student described the day as "eye-opening and motivating," while teachers praised the Navy’s hands-on approach to education.
We are grateful to the Royal Navy for their time and dedication in helping our students explore new horizons, both on land and at sea!
