On Friday, 24th January 2025, Woodhey High School hosted a highly successful Careers Fair as part of its Personal Development Programme, known as The Pledge. The event aimed to give students a unique opportunity to explore a wide variety of career options and gain valuable insights into the world of work. Attended by all year groups, from Year 7 to Year 11, the fair provided a platform for students to engage with industry professionals, colleges, and organisations.
The fair featured an impressive lineup of companies and institutions that showcased the diverse career paths available to students. Representatives from a range of sectors, including education, public services, engineering, healthcare, and the creative industries, offered firsthand advice and shared their expertise with attendees.
Among the organisations that attended were Access Creative, offering opportunities in the creative industries, and Ada, which focuses on digital skills. Local colleges such as Nelson and Colne College, Bolton College, Bury College, Holy Cross College, Hopwood Hall College, The Sixth Form Bolton and Myerscough College were on hand to discuss further education opportunities.
Students also had the chance to interact with Bury Council and Bury VCFA, which offered insight into local government roles and community services. For those interested in engineering and energy, Vital Energi presented exciting prospects in the sector. The event also featured employers such as DWP Civil Service, Garic, GMLPN, Mploy, and Persona, who provided a variety of career options ranging from logistics, civil service to care services. Students also had the opportunity to talk to Community Rail Lancashire about the many exciting opportunities in the rail industry.
The NHS represented the healthcare sector. Meanwhile, military representatives from the Royal Airforce and the British Army showcased careers in defence, while The Football College highlighted the pathway to a career in football and sports management.
In addition to these industry-specific representatives, The Met Bury provided students with details of a broader perspective of careers in the live entertainment industry.
