On November 19th, 2024, Woodhey High School hosted a memorable ceremony to celebrate the achievements of 84 students who successfully completed their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award. This significant event was an integral part of the school’s Personal Development Programme, known as The Pledge, which focuses on enriching students' personal growth and leadership skills.
The Duke of Edinburgh Award is widely recognised for its positive impact on young people, challenging them to engage in a variety of activities designed to foster new skills, improve physical fitness, and encourage a sense of social responsibility. The Bronze Award requires participants to complete four key sections: volunteering, physical activity, skill development, and an expedition. For many of the students at Woodhey, this journey was both demanding and rewarding, testing their resilience, teamwork, and determination.
The ceremony was a proud moment for both students and staff, with Glenn and Andrew from Grip Adventure, the organisation that worked in partnership with the school, assisting in handing out the awards. Their involvement added a personal touch, further highlighting the importance of teamwork and mentorship throughout the students’ Duke of Edinburgh experience.
Mr. Downing, Assistant Headteacher for Personal Development, expressed the school’s immense pride in the students’ accomplishments. He praised their hard work and determination, acknowledging that many of the students had overcome significant challenges in order to meet the criteria of the award. The students’ achievement is a testament to their perseverance, enthusiasm, and the valuable life skills they developed through the program.
Woodhey High School’s Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award Ceremony was a heartening celebration of students’ growth, achievement, and the school looks forward to seeing even more students embark on their journey towards the Bronze Award in the future.
