On Friday, 31st January, Woodhey High School hosted an NHS Careers Day for our Year 7 students. This event was a significant part of the careers section of the Pledge, Woodhey High School's Personal Development programme. The day was filled with a variety of workshops and activities designed to inspire and inform students about the diverse career opportunities within the NHS.

Workshops and Activities
Throughout the day, students participated in several workshops, each focusing on different aspects of careers within the NHS. These workshops provided a comprehensive overview of the various roles and pathways available, helping students to understand the breadth and depth of opportunities in the healthcare sector.

1. Graduating into the NHS
The first workshop of the day focused on the journey of graduating into the NHS. Students learned about the different educational pathways and qualifications required to enter various NHS roles. This session highlighted the importance of academic achievements and the various routes one can take, whether through university degrees, apprenticeships, or vocational training.

2. Being a Nurse in the NHS
The second workshop provided an in-depth look at the role of nurses within the NHS. Students were introduced to the daily responsibilities of nurses, the different specialisations within nursing, and the essential skills required for this profession.

3. NHS Leadership Roles
Leadership within the NHS was the focus of the third workshop. Students explored the various leadership positions available, from department heads to senior management roles. This session aimed to inspire future leaders by discussing the qualities and skills needed to lead effectively in a healthcare setting.

4. Virtual Reality and Education
One of the most exciting workshops of the day was on the use of virtual reality (VR) in education and training within the NHS. Students had the opportunity to experience VR simulations that are used to train healthcare professionals.

5. The Role of Social Media and Communications in the NHS
In today's digital age, social media and communications play a crucial role in the NHS. This workshop highlighted how the NHS uses social media to engage with the public, share important health information, and promote health campaigns.

6. Being a Cancer Surgeon
The role of a cancer surgeon was the focus of another workshop. Students gained insights into the life of a cancer surgeon, from the rigorous training and education required to the daily challenges and rewards of the job. This session aimed to inspire students to consider careers in surgical specialties and understand the critical role surgeons play in patient care.

7. Roles as a Therapeutic Radiographer
The final workshop of the day focused on the role of therapeutic radiographers. Students learned about the importance of radiography in diagnosing and treating diseases, particularly cancer. The session provided an overview of the educational pathways to become a radiographer and the skills needed for this vital role in the healthcare system.

Interactive Sessions
In addition to the workshops, the day included interactive question and answer sessions and quizzes. These activities allowed students to engage directly with NHS professionals, ask questions, and test their knowledge.
